The Polestar Phone is now official as a rebranded Meizu 21 Pro

Last year EV maker Nio launched its own smartphone and this seems to have started a frenzy amongst its competitors. Today, right on schedule, Polestar has announced its very own first smartphone, the inventively named Polestar Phone, following a few weeks of leaks, rumors, and teasers – yesterday we even saw a pre-announcement unboxing video.

The Polestar Phone is now official as a rebranded Meizu 21 Pro

The Polestar Phone is made by Meizu and based on the Chinese company’s 21 Pro device, which was unveiled back in February. That’s no coincidence since both Polestar and Meizu are owned by Chinese auto giant Geely.

The Polestar Phone comes with pure “Scandinavian design aesthetics of extreme simplicity and luxury”, and even the logo on the back is “glorious, restrained, and not obvious”, a machine translation from Chinese tells us. If you’re wondering why we’re translating details about the handset from Chinese, it’s because the Polestar Phone has only been launched for that market.

The device has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC at the helm, a 6.79-inch 1368×3192 120 Hz LTPO OLED screen made by BOE and capable of 1,850-nit peak brightness, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, a triple rear camera system (50 MP main with OIS, 13 MP ultrawide, 10 MP 3x telephoto with OIS), a 32 MP selfie camera, and a 5,050 mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.

The phone is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance. It measures 164.98 x 74.42 x 7.98 mm and weighs 214g. It’s only being offered in one color called Polestar White. The specs are identical to those of the Meizu 21 Pro, by the way. The only way to order a Polestar Phone seems to be through the Polestar app.

Of course the main selling point for this device is its tight integration with the Polestar cars – currently that only works with the Polestar 4. The Polestar Phone also has UWB hardware but no support for it yet, this will come later through an update enabling digital car key. The same is true for an AI gallery generative image creation feature, an AI-assisted input function, as well as Polestar Link for seamless interconnection with other cars aside from the Polestar 4.
