AD Small Spaces: A 750-square-foot home in Mumbai champions minimalism and clever storage

Off-whites and neutral hues became integral to the area’s palette, allowing high-contrast accents to take centre stage. The living room of the family home is directly adjacent to the kitchen and dining area and has similar tonal properties. A rattan console, a round black coffee table, and a textured rug soften the grey couch before a greige panelled wall.

Throughout the home in Mumbai, you will notice touches of minimalism met with earthy tones —a design characteristic she was keen on maintaining in every room. Chrisann enveloped the bedroom in the apartment on all sides in soothing shades of white, green, and wood to help the client decompress. The master suite has a freestanding wooden bed, and hints of olive green and beige that give the bedding a much-needed chromatic lift. She used free-standing furniture like consoles, a study, and side tables to avoid cluttering the space. Responding to the son’s fascination with outer space, a stunning wallpaper envelops the entire bedroom. The light oak tones continue into the room through the flooring, study and headboard. All the furniture was custom-designed to respond to a child’s ergonomics. She used end-to-end mirrors for the bathrooms to avoid patterned tiles and tall ledges, helping the space feel airy and bright.
