Driven by the homeowners’ dedication to an eco-friendly and vegan lifestyle, sustainability and local craftsmanship took precedence at every stage of construction. Reclaimed wood was favoured over new timber, and natural materials like cane and lime plaster were used extensively. Even the pigments in the lime plaster were sourced from natural stone dust instead of synthetic alternatives. Many furniture pieces are adorned with flowers and leaves from the surrounding trees, and block-printed fabric adorns the doors and shutters. Such meticulous attention to detail ensured that every facet of the home aligns with the desired values, creating a space that harmonizes seamlessly with both nature and ethical beliefs.

The living room exudes a rustic and old-worldly charm, nestled beneath a pitched roof. Its openness and grandeur blend seamlessly with simplicity. Massive sliding doors connect this double-height space with the garden outside, infusing the room with abundant natural light and ventilation. Harmoniously blending elements was key, hence the wooden furniture with intricate cane work and rustic-toned upholstery, exuding warmth and character. These are beautifully complemented by the earthy tones of the lime-plastered walls.

A cosy leisure room on the ground floor, just before the main bedroom, provides a perfect retreat. With a bar counter, bar stools from Studioworks Ahmedabad and a comfortable couch, it’s an ideal spot to relax and unwind. These spaces fulfil the desired goal of creating areas that go beyond the ordinary, providing a sanctuary from the daily hustle.

The bedrooms, one on the ground floor and the other on the first floor, embrace a minimalistic yet sophisticated design. Panels of flowery artwork created by Krupa Shah, an artist and the homeowner’s sister, are the highlight of the ground-floor bedroom. The headboard of the bed is curated with an interesting design in cane backed by the striking art piece. The console and wardrobe handles integrate the site elements, embracing the dried flowers in the design effortlessly.

The cosy bedroom on the first floor boasts a four-poster bed as its centrepiece, set against interestingly designed closet doors serving as the backdrop. These doors, along with the console shutters, are adorned with block-printed fabrics sourced from ‘Mashroo’ by Neha Mala, lending a unique and culturally rich flair to the space. Additionally, an exquisite Kashmiri rug, a cherished collectible, found its rightful place in this bedroom. The rug with vibrant hues and intricate patterns enhances the monochromatic room’s charm and character.

Situated amidst serene landscapes, this 2,000-square-foot weekend home near Ahmedabad epitomizes a visionary approach to sustainable design. Remarkably, the project was brought to life in just two and a half months, seamlessly blending innovative design with meticulous execution. Embracing its natural surroundings, the home celebrates the beauty of local materials and expert craftsmanship, creating a harmonious sanctuary in harmony with its environment.
