11 unusual museums in the world where ‘strange’ is an understatement

While the world is full of celebrated and innovative art institutions, from New York’s Guggenheim to Florence’s Uffizi Gallery, there are plenty of smaller, unusual museums that you most likely have never heard of, filled with their own unusual artefacts. While Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum are more famous, the highlight of a rainy day in the city may be a visit to the Cat Cabinet, a museum filled with art portraying our feline friends. In creating this list of unusual museums, we skipped over some with more scurrilous themes (we’ll let you imagine for yourself which ones those might be), but the final result is still an eclectic assortment with ones that are scary, amusing, or just plain odd. And yet you may find some of them inspiring too. You’ll be the judge of that as you read our list of some of our personal favourites.
