Following the announcements from previous days, Moondrop has now come forth and released all the remaining details of its upcoming audio-focused phone, the MIAD 01, including pricing and availability.
For starters, the phone will be running on the MediaTek Dimensity 7050, a decidedly mid-range chipset with an octa-core CPU design and Arm Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. The phone features 12GB of LPDDR4X memory and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There will also be microSD storage expansion of up to 2TB.
The phone has a dual-camera system on the back consisting of a 64MP primary shooter. There’s no information regarding the second camera on the back, which suggests it’s most likely just a depth sensor. On the front, there is a 32MP camera.
The MIAD 01 features a 5000mAh battery with 33W USB-PD charging. There’s also 5Gbps USB 3.1 connectivity. In terms of dimensions, the phone measures 9.15mm at its thinnest and weighs 202g.
The display, as mentioned previously, is a 6.7-inch 1080p curved OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1920Hz PWM dimming.
As for software, Moondrop claims to have pure stock Android OS with promises of no data collection or advertisements.
As for the audio side of things, you get those dual headphone jacks with a 4.4mm balanced and a 3.5mm single-ended output. The balanced jack has 4Vrms output whereas the 3.5mm has 2Vrms. The audio is powered by flagship quad-channel dual Cirrus Logic MasterHIFI DACs (no model specified but possibly CS43198) with a measured dynamic range of 132 dB and a SINAD of 118 dB. All of these are excellent figures for a dedicated portable DAC/amp, let alone a smartphone.
The audio circuit features a 6-layer gold-sinking and an independent LDO power supply. The device also features a 100-level hardware-level DAC volume control and the Moondrop Audio Center app with DSP functionality.
Now for the final piece of the puzzle. The Moondrop MIAD 01 is priced at 2499 RMB, which is about $345. That’s a lot less than expected and, comically, cheaper than the company’s mechanical keyboard. The phone will be available in China starting April 25. As for international availability, that remains unknown.
